Consider Banking With A Credit Union for better interest rates
Maybe you aren't familiar with banking with a credit union, but they really are a wonderful way to bank. When you sign up you become a “member” of your credit union and become a part owner of the company. If you have a mortgage or loan with them, each year they will give you a rebate on the interest that you paid on those loans or mortgages. This can often be a considerable amount of money and is sent to you in the form of a cheque, or applied on the loans that you owe.
As well as loans, your credit union will be able to offer a range of banking services, such as ISA's and Childrens trust funds. These are often very competitive, because as well as being an ethical way to bank, they also listen to what people want in their particular area, and supply it. More and more credit union centres are opening up in towns and cities across the country, so there will probably be one near you.
Membership isn't always guaranteed, as each credit union centre has what's called a "common bond", the rules of which decide who can become members of the credit union.
The common bond may be a group of workers at the same company, or people who go to the same church, or just people who live in the same area as each other. You will need to ask at your local credit union centre what the common bond is.
