Save Money on Fuel


Driving a car is expensive, but for most of us there's just no other option. If you don't live in an area with a good public transit system or you live in a rural area, your car or van is an essential tool to get you to and from work every day. If you're like me, you want to find a way to save money on fuel without having to get rid of your car completely or ride a bike.

 

I often ask myself the question “What do I have to do to save me money on fuel?” It's a valid question, but one that I'm afraid will result in having to change my life too drastically.  If you have this same concern, relax; There are a number of different things that you can do to save money on fuel that aren't too drastic and actually are so simple that you wonder how you might have missed them.

 

-Try to combine your trips. If you drive to work each day, make stops on the way home for things such as groceries or banking so that you don't have to go out later.
 
-Avoid idling as much as possible. Just turn your car off if you're going to be waiting. Not only will you save money, but you will also save on greenhouse gas emissions.
 
-Go to a fuel station with a points program.
 
-Slow down and don't accelerate too quickly.
 
-Keep your tires properly inflated.
 
-Keep your car in good condition mechanically.
 
-Don't carry more weight in your car then you need to.
 
-Use other means of transportation if they're available in your area.
 

-CarpoolWatch for trends in your local fuel prices. Fuel prices are lowered on certain days and times.

 

These are just a few ways that you can save money on fuel and there are many more. These tips don't ask you to sacrifice too much and only result in more money in your pocket.
